Swinger of birches

New coworkers = new people to share my baked goods with. 

I made this cake for a birthday in my office. I knew my coworker liked to go hiking, and you can't wander New England without falling in love with birch trees. 

I copied this recipe from The Cake Girls. I admit my buttercream was too thick, which made it not as sticky as I'd like. If I did this cake again, I'd also make thinner strips of bark rather than one long sheet to crack into pieces.
